SNEAKER REVIEW - AIR MAX 1 SCUBA BLUE

A relatively new colorway of the Air Max '87, (also known as the Air Max 1, or AM1 for short) the scuba blue version released this year with no real attention shown by sneakerheads. However, it is one of the many simple and clean colorways to release in this model in 2010.

Here's a picture of them on foot:

MATERIALS: The gray and black parts on the shoe's uppers (including the tongue) are a very short haired suede, and the white portions are mesh. The scuba blue comes in hints on the tongue tag, the top two laceholes, and through the air bubble. The midsole is white and the sole is black and white. The shoe comes with flat white laces.
FEATURES: None really to speak of. They get the name "scuba blue" from the official colorway, even though there are but a few hints of it on the shoe.
STREET VALUE: retail
MY NOTES ON ACTUALLY WEARING THESE: Yes, the materials on these are definitely not on par with other Nike releases, which probably contributes greatly to the nonattention shown them by collectors. The mesh seems harder (almost plasticky) and the suede is almost like sandpaper. That being said, these shoes look great when worn and are very comfortable, fitting true to size. Unless one is right up on the shoe evaluating material quality, the shoe will come off as fresh overall. The mesh toebox means there should be no creases on these even after a bit of wear. The suede is definitely going to eventually get spotty/dingy on the grey parts and the mesh as well, but you should be able to clean the mesh and midsole without much problem. Careful as always with the suede, bad quality or no. You can pretty much wear this shoe with anything you want and they look really good on feet with either khakis or jeans. Overall a better shoe than what it is given credit for and worth looking into if only for sheer comfort factor.
