When I broke out my mosquitos the other day, I was reminded how at one point they were thought to be the Michaelangelos from the show Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Although that proved to not be the case, these shoes released in 2008 are supposedly based on the show, from the colors right down to the texture on the materials. Although still met with mixed reviews, the Donatello Mids are definite head turners and if you are nostalgic about the purple-masked character from the show, they are a must have.
MATERIALS: The toebox, panel around the swoosh, and upper rear are all leather, the rest is suede. The toebox is made of a smoother leather while the other leather areas are more pebbled. They have a white midsole with matching stitching and a brown outsole. My pair came with purple and brown sb laces.
FEATURES: These have no special features and get their name from their similarity in color scheme to the character from TMNT.
STREET VALUE: $120-180
MY NOTES ON ACTUALLY WEARING THESE: These are very comfortable. They are going to crease on the toebox eventually, but the dark brown on the shoe should hide some dirt as long as it doesn't get wet. A clean midsole, toebox, and swoosh will go a long way to preserving this sneaker. These are kind of a fall/winter shoe with the mostly dark brown upper, and tricky to match. Beware of overdoing it on the purple or green.
